Celebrating Men in Care! Employees of the Month

Nationally men make up around 15% of the frontline care home workers, here at M&D Care a fantastic 33.91% of our workforce is made up by those identifying as Male. This month we are celebrating ‘Men in Care’ by announcing not one, but THREE male employees of the month for May! We are delighted to announce our winners are Gary Phillips, Stephen Davies & Owain Jones.

We are extremely proud of all those working within our services, and are delighted to have the opportunity to be able to celebrate some of the exceptional members of staff within our team.

Stephen has been with us since 2021, and is a fantastic support for the people we support and fellow colleagues within the Ty Richards service. Those around him have said, "Stephen is a hardworking Senior Support Worker, and mentor to those within the service. With a positive attitude and diligent and efficient work ethic, Stephen is always keen to voice fresh and helpful ideas to help those around him. He is an extremely hardworking member of the team, who puts the people we support at the forefront of everything we do."

Gary joined M&D Care in February 2022, despite only being with us for just over a year, Gary has become a key figure within The Elms as a Senior Support Worker. In the words of his colleagues, "Gary is a trusted and key member of the team, who goes above and beyond in his role. He strives to get the best from the people we support to aid them in achieving their goals. Gary will often stay on after his shifts to aid his colleagues and ensure the team feels fully supported."

Owain has become a great mentor to new members of staff within the Rotherslade service within his 5 years within the company. He is known for his kindness to those around him, a value which is extremely important here at M&D Care. His colleagues have said, "Owain is a supportive role model to those within the service, helping newer colleagues settle in and learn the role. Owain's kindness is his biggest strength, and all at Rotherslade benefit from his devotion to the team and people we support."

Finalists | 2023 Housing with Care Awards

We are delighted to have been shortlisted in this year’s CareTalk Housing with Care Awards, in not one, but three categories! 

The inaugural awards represent all areas of housing with care from the independent and voluntary sectors; including retirement integrated communities, assisted living, extra care housing, supported living and shared lives schemes. 

We look forward to attending the gala awards event in June.

Our Nominations:

This award recognises outstanding innovative approach(es) to best meet the needs of residents. Candidates must be able to clearly evidence success in though improvements relating to resident’s wellbeing and/or satisfaction levels. Evidence of a product or innovation that has changed the face of supported housing is essential.

This award recognises an employer who has invested in their buildings, services and their employees to offer quality housing. Judges will be looking for an exceptional employer who demonstrates and inspires vision and collaboration. Employers must be able to demonstrate an investment in diversity as a means to deliver effective business objectives whilst standing out that it’s a great place to work.

This award recognises exceptional innovative and exemplary training and education programmes that encourage and inspire staff to deliver outstanding results. Judges will be looking for evidence of development programmes that mirror service delivery ensuring that staff have the right skills mix. Evidence of diverse training approaches to meet the difference learning styles of staff is also essential.

Good Luck Mike | London Marathon

We are wishing the best of luck to Michael Bevan, our Director of Care & Quality, who is running tomorrow’s London Marathon (Saturday 22nd April 2023). 

Throughout his six years at M&D Care, Mike has never shied away from a challenge. Back in 2020, Mike completed the Barcelona, London & Edinburgh Marathons, in ONLY 10 weeks, in aid of raising funds for Mencap.

Mike will once again be running in support of Mencap, a National charity close to his heart, supporting people with Learning Disabilities to promote inclusion within our communities.

Mike has said, ‘I have worked with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health for 13 years, starting my journey as a care assistant. I am thrilled and humbled to have been selected to run the London Marathon 2023 for Mencap.

I aim to raise at least £2500 for the Mencap charity. This is a huge task without the support and good gesture of my connections.

There are 1.5 million people living in the UK with learning disabilities. By joining together we can support Mencap to give a voice to those in our communities who may not otherwise have one.’

National Finalists | Great British Care Awards

Best of luck to our team attending tomorrow’s GreatBritishCareAwards National Finals!

After taking home the ‘Putting People First’ award at the regional ceremony in January, our Western Bay Domiciliary Care team are hoping they can continue success at the nationals in Birmingham tomorrow.

It’s an honour to be finalists in such prestigious awards, paying tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work. We wish all those attending the very best of luck.
