Crown Street, Morriston, Swansea is a new project, which opened in December 2019. Crown Street builds on our success in developing and managing bespoke supported living projects over the past few years. We feel this will replicate the success of some of our other projects and models of care, in locations such as Ebenezer, Wern Road Project and Skewen Supported living.
This project provides a ‘home for life’ for people who display behaviours that challenge. This project allows for more intensive management of care needs, whilst affording the least restrictions within a community placement. Crown Street offers a real choice and opportunity for people to move into the community and towards living more independent lives.
The success of Crown street will lie in the projects ability to create a strong routine and meaningful day, accompanied by the ability to allow the people being supported to develop daily living skills in a safe environment. An additional area of focus will be to allow the people being supported to maintain their tenancies.
Although this project is a supported living environment, it is staffed 24 hours a day. This allows for true flexibility in 1:1 support hours and an increased level of supervision and monitoring. There is an onsite manager and small stable core staff team. The project is overseen by a head of service and they have access to a full PBS team and Clinical lead who will be available for support.
The Crown Street project is made up of seven fully self-contained flats, this allows for each area to be fully self-contained and staff are able to provide support within in private environments when required. All flats are single occupancy and contain a double bedroom, fully fitted kitchen with dining area in an open plan fashion, integrated fridge freezer, oven and hob, an energy saving boiler, bathroom and shower facilities (baths can be negotiated if required). Each flat is fully customisable to all requirements and we will work with you to find the best fit. Persons living at Crown Street will also have access to communal spaces which will help combat any isolation or feelings of isolation whilst living in their own flat.
Crown street utilises assisted technology in order to improve safety and independence, this includes fob access where access can be agreed with the individual and their MDT and security cameras in the outdoor areas to name a few. The project is located in Morriston, very close to all amenities and it provides easy access to public transport. Crown Street is also located in the same area as two of M&D Care’s projects which allow for additional support when required.
Crown Street is a project that allows the people being supported to hold their own tenancy, these can be both short term and long term depending on requirements. The project will be able to be able to provide a variety of support including targeted support, 24-hour support packages and personal care.
M&D care as an organisation has many years of experience in managing complex cases in both the fields of mental health and learning disabilities. We train our staff to manage complex cases and tailor our training to the needs of the individual. All our staff are trained in the principles of PBS and active support alongside PBM, a comprehensive regular training packages allows for the best quality care to be provided at Crown Street.
We believe this project provides the perfect environment for those who require increased support but still want to maintain their independence.
