Community Champions!

As part of our recently launched Community Champions scheme, which was developed to support charities and community groups in which our employees and the people we support have a shared connection with. We are proud to be sponsoring one of our colleagues Chris Honey-Jones in his pursuit to raise money for @swanseamind which is very close to his heart. On the 21st August Chris, alongside his fellow colleagues from Ynystawe Lodge, will be carrying out a walk up Pen Y Fan.

Chris would like to give something back to recognise the great work that Mind do. Having worked with people who suffer with Mental Health it is important to Chris to ensure support services continue to run to offer support to people in need. Charities like Mind heavily rely on donations to be able to continue running and offering a much needed service, especially during these difficult times.

We would like to take this opportunity in wishing Chris and the team all the best

Learning Disability Awareness Week

It’s #LearningDisabilityWeek and we are joining Mencap by #gettingcreative with our very own Pop Up Art Gallery here at the M&D Care Head Office. The people we support from across our services, as well as staff members will be able to showcase their fantastic work throughout the week. 🎨

These beautiful pieces of work have been on display all week at our Head Office, as part of our pop up art exhibition. Encouraging people to express themselves and their emotions creatively in a way that has meaning to them, plays a huge part in their mental health and wellbeing. We would like to thank the people we support for sharing with us such a captivating and inspirational collection of artwork.

Interservice Battle Commences!

To get our summer off with a bang, we have launched an inter-service competition, whereby our services will go head to head each weekend to put on the best themed event. This weekend just gone was the first of our battle of the services, whereby four of them went head to head to create the best Glastonbury Festival and Royal Ascot events. The weather was absolutely incredible, with each service being able to get outside. The teams pulled off four fantastic events, with plenty of fun, music, games, food and laughter; it’s going to be hard to judge a winner from them all.

One weekend down, six to go! Let the battles continue!

We’ve had yet another set of incredible weekends for our Inter-Service Competition here at M&D Care, whereby our services have gone head to head for the best themed event. We’ve had six fantastic events; The Greatest Showman, Superheroes Vs Villains and Hollywood Glitz and Glamour, where staff and the people we support have gone all out to impress with plenty of fun, music, games, food, dressing up and laughter.

Another set of battles down, three to go! Let the battles continue!
Our penultimate Inter-Service Competitions took place over the weekend! We’ve had two fantastic events; Disco Inferno 70s & 80s and a Hawaiian Lu’au, where staff and the people we support have gone all out to impress with plenty of fun, music, games, food, dressing up and laughter.

Another set of battles down, one left to go! Let the battles continue with The Wild West!

The Wild West draws our Inter Service competition to a close! We sure went out with a bang!

A massive thank you to all our services for their participation over the last few weeks – not long now until the winners will be announced.

In the meantime let’s take a look at our Wild West events from this week, whereby staff and the people we support got together to have an afternoon of fun activities, dressing up and BBQs.

Our First Community Champion!

We are proud to share with you that Simon, on the 5th June, took part in a gruelling and emotional 65 mile charity bike ride, facing all the elements in aid of West Wales Poundies and Greenacres Rescue. Simon has so far raised over £600 for charity. Congratulations Simon on a fantastic effort!
As part of our recently launched Community Champions scheme, which was developed to support charities and community groups in which our employees and the people we support have a shared connection with. We are proud to be sponsoring one of our colleagues Simon John in his pursuit to raise money for two charities which are very close to his heart. On the 5th June Simon will be taking part in a 65 mile charity bike ride in aid of West Wales Poundies and Greenacres Rescue.

Simon and his family help out with the charities whenever they can, with transportation of dogs, collection of bedding and dog food, both charities will never put a healthy animal to sleep. His own 9 year old dog Bonza is a rescue from West Wales Poundies.

We would like to take this opportunity in wishing Simon all the best 👏

Mental Health Awareness Week

During this pandemic, millions of us have experienced a mental health
problem, or seen a loved one struggle. Some of us have seen our already fragile mental health plummet, while the support networks around us disappear. And we’ve seen that the support we all need just isn’t out there. For them, for us and for you – we must take this chance to step up the fight for mental health. That means fighting for change, for fairness, for respect and for life-changing support.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘nature‘ – something fitting, after a year where we’ve seen more of our four walls in our homes than the four seasons.

#MentalHealthAwarenessWeek starts today. Across our services we will be using the week to encourage our staff and the people we support to talk about nature and mental health 🌳 Nature can play a huge part in destressing and creating good mental health, so what better way to combine the two and engage in activities throughout the week, leading up to our ‘Wear it Green for Mental Health’ on Friday to help raise even more awareness.

See below for some handy resources:

Head to Mind’s page for more tools.

Or Mental Health Foundation for more great resources during the week too.

Why not try Rethink’s page?

Or even just give these few things a go during the week:

  • Cooking a new meal?
  • Preparing a picnic – heading to the local park, woodland or go for a
walk. Take your picnic and relax!
  • Get out in the garden and enjoy some outdoor games.
  • Read a new book.
  • Create your own bubble machine outside.
  • Have a water fight.
  • Go on a nature walk – make a tally of everything you see.
  • Encourage lots of talking.
